Immigration to Romania
Romania is a friendly country that borders Ukraine and is in great demand among Ukrainians in the context of obtaining a residence permit.
After the start of the full-scale Russian invasion, a significant number of Ukrainian citizens left for this country. Therefore, obtaining a residence permit in Romania, as well as obtaining Romanian citizenship, are the requests with which clients often turn to specialists who specialize in the field of migration law. If you are thinking about obtaining a temporary or permanent residence permit in Romania, this article may be useful for you.
What are the advantages of a residence permit?
A person who receives a residence permit has many opportunities in the legal field that make his life in Romania not only legal, but also as comfortable as possible. These are the following positive factors:
- the opportunity to receive free medical care;
- access to the Romanian labor market and the possibility of legal employment;
- the right for children to receive education in Romanian educational institutions;
- better opportunities in terms of social security.
Thus, in many ways, having a residence permit brings a person closer to the rights that Romanian citizens have, apart from participating in the electoral process.
Grounds for obtaining a residence permit in Romania
The most common reasons for obtaining a residence permit in Romania are the following:
- Business opening and investment activity. When it comes to this basis, the investment in the business must be in the amount of 100,000 euros for an LLC or 150,000 euros for a joint-stock company. It is also necessary to create a minimum of 10 jobs for an LLC or 15 for a corporation. If the specified conditions are met, the foreigner has the opportunity not only to issue a permit for one year, but also to extend it further.
- Marriage with a citizen of Romania. Here, too, we are talking about a permit for a period of one year. If the relationship has not ended after that, the permit can be extended. And after a long stay on the basis of a permanent permit, it will be possible to obtain Romanian citizenship through naturalization.
- Obtaining an education. If a person has entered one of the Romanian universities, he has the right to issue a residence permit for the entire period of education. However, there is one very important condition – only those who have entered institutions with the appropriate accreditation have the right to issue a passport based on their studies.
- Employment permit. In order to issue a temporary permit in such a case, you need to confirm your employment with an employment contract.
- Reunification with relatives living in Romania. Children and parents of Romanian citizens have the opportunity to issue a temporary residence permit, which can be extended.
- Refugee. If a person has been oppressed in his homeland, he can apply for a temporary right of residence in Romania.
If you need help with the issue of obtaining or extending a residence permit in Romania, our experts in migration law are ready to provide competent advisory assistance and legal support for these processes. How can you get Romanian citizenship?
The most common grounds for obtaining Romanian citizenship are birth, naturalization, descent and repatriation. When we talk about Romanian citizenship by birth, we mean children who have at least one parent who is a citizen of this country. Also, a minor adopted person can become a citizen of Romania in the same case.
As for repatriation, this reason is relevant for persons who already had Romanian citizenship, but they lost it against their will. This also applies to their descendants up to the 3rd degree. It is possible to become a citizen of Romania in such cases, even if the person also wants to keep his foreign citizenship.
Obtaining Romanian citizenship on the basis of naturalization is possible for persons who have lived in the territory of this country for at least 8 years. If they live in Romania and are married to a citizen of this country, the term is reduced to 5 years. The key is for the marriage to last for the entire specified time. Also important requirements are:
- loyalty to Romania, compliance with the current legislation of this country;
- availability of legal sources of support;
- coming of age;
- no criminal record;
- command of the Romanian language and knowledge of the peculiarities of the culture of this country.

What are the risks of obtaining Romanian citizenship?
On the Internet, you can see many announcements and advertisements of services related to the registration of Romanian citizenship. At the same time, a significant part of those who offer such services do not provide them at the appropriate level of quality. Some simply take money from customers and disappear, and this situation is not uncommon.
Therefore, it is worth cooperating only with those who do it transparently and within the framework of an official contract for the provision of services. It is on this principle that the law firm “Prіkhodko&Partners” operates.
