Applying for a passport in the Czech Republic
When you need to apply for a passport while in another country, it is important to know the algorithm according to which you should act. Let’s consider in more detail the sequence of actions when it comes to applying for a passport in the Czech Republic. Where to apply for a passport in the Czech Republic?
Ukrainian citizens who are in the Czech Republic can apply for or renew their passports at foreign diplomatic missions of Ukraine. These are Ukrainian consular missions in the Czech Republic or the State Enterprise “Dokument”.
Appointment
Documents can only be submitted by prior appointment via the “EConsul” website. To make a request, electronic identification is required in one of the following ways:
- Diya.Signature;
- BankID;
- EDS (electronic digital signature).
It is impossible to register without one of these means of authorization.
Reason for electronic identification requirements
Since 2023, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine has updated the registration system for consular missions. As of today, registration is carried out only through personal authorization, which allows you to automatically confirm the identity of the applicant. It is this confirmation of the applicant’s identity that is the key reason for using this form of identification. In view of this, other forms of registration (for example, via e-mail or telephone) are not provided.
Features of the procedure for men
Consulates of Ukraine in the Czech Republic do not have full access to state registers, so some data must be confirmed independently. That is why, before submitting documents, it is recommended for men of draft age to install the “Reserve+” application or generate an extract from the “Diya” application about military registration. This is necessary in order to confirm the status of a person liable for military service. If this is not done, then, according to the norms of current legislation, a person will not receive access to consular services abroad.
Passport extension
It is currently impossible to extend a valid passport. This is due to the cancellation of the temporary procedure for extending passports, by decision of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Now you can only submit documents for a new passport to consular institutions or the State Enterprise “Dokument” in the Czech Republic. The option of extending the validity of a passport was relevant only at the beginning of the full-scale invasion. And now you need to take care of issuing a new document.
What changes occurred on October 29?
When it comes to issuing foreign passports, it is important to always follow the latest information on this subject, since it is precisely on awareness and information that the correctness of further actions related to the issuance of documents depends.
So, the Government has approved amendments to the resolution, which in February 2022 introduced a temporary procedure for extending the validity of foreign passports, as well as entering information about children. If we briefly summarize the essence of these changes, they are as follows:
- Those foreign passports whose validity has been extended manually lose their validity. This means that they will no longer be valid documents for crossing the border.
- Entering information about children into parents’ passports is no longer allowed. Starting from October 29, 2025, each child must have their own foreign passport, the validity of which is up to 4 years.
Therefore, the simplified procedure that was in effect at the beginning of the full-scale invasion ceases to be relevant for crossing the border.
