RECEIVING A GRANT FOR A CHARITY FUND

Receiving a grant for a charity fund is an important stage in the development and support of charitable programs and projects. Such grants are provided by various organizations such as government agencies, private foundations, corporations, grants from the state, etc.

As of April 2023, the following types of grants for charitable foundations exist in Ukraine:

  • Human rights, dignity and security in conditions of war” from the International Renaissance Fund (IFV) with the financial support of the EU. The program was created in order to provide assistance to public organizations that protect the values, rights, and freedoms of a person and a citizen, who are affected by hostilities in the country and record the events of the war in real-time. Non-profit civil society organizations with different organizational and legal forms can participate in the program. The size of the grant is provided for from UAH 400,000. up to 1 million 200 thousand UAH.
  • Strengthening the sustainability and capacity of organizations dealing with IDP issues ” from the International Renaissance Fund (IFV) with the financial support of the EU. The program is aimed at increasing the sustainability and efficiency of volunteer and public organizations in order to adapt IDPs in local communities of various regions (expand opportunities for communication with the local population, ensure social cohesion, and increase attention to the problems of IDPs). The grant provides that the application for participation can be submitted by public organizations and unions, charitable organizations that have real experience working with IDPs. The size of the grant is expected to be UAH 500,000.
  • “Open Doors” from the “Open Government” Partnership Initiative of the Eastern Partnership (EaP) with the support of the European Union. The purpose of this grant is to expand civil society participation and build cross-sectoral partnerships in the areas of integrity, anti-corruption, public service delivery, justice, response to crisis situations and their overcoming, access to information, open governance, inclusiveness in the period of reconstruction and recovery after the war, as well as the development of civic space. The grant can be used for one of the following purposes: 1) to propose and implement catalytic approaches to open governance reforms and their inclusion as obligations in the action plans of the PSU; 2) to support joint implementation, monitoring, and oversight of commitments, action plans, ideally focusing on approaches that can be scaled between action plan cycles; 3) to promote, implement and/or monitor open government reforms related to European integration processes. The amount of assistance is up to 25,000 euros for 4-12 months.

What documents must be submitted?

  • Grant application: This is the main document that contains information about the project, its goals, objectives, and plans, as well as about the organization that implements the project.
  • Project budget: This document contains information about the planned costs of the project, including salaries, rent of premises, purchase of equipment and materials, transportation costs, and other expenses.
  • Organization Description: This document contains information about the organization implementing the project. It may include the history of the organization, a description of its mission and goals, structure and composition of personnel, achievements,
  • Project Summary: This document provides a brief description of the project, its goals, and objectives, and objective and expected results.
  • Confirmation of the status of the organization: this document contains information that confirms the status of the organization as a charitable or non-profit organization registered in accordance with the legislation of the country in which the organization is located.

In addition to these documents, additional documents may also be required depending on the requirements of the funding organization. For example, you may need a project business plan, a list of organization members, financial statements, confirmation of experience working on similar projects, and others.
