Immigration to Bulgaria
Bulgaria is associated with many Ukrainians as a pleasant and hospitable country for recreation. However, the realities of the full-scale Russian invasion have greatly changed the perception of this state – now many people consider it not as a place for tourism, but as a country of residence.
We suggest that you familiarize yourself in more detail with the advantages of Bulgaria for permanent residence. We will also tell you why it would be advisable for you to contact the specialists of the law firm “Prikhodko&Partners” if you are interested in a residence permit or citizenship of Bulgaria.
Migration law is among the top areas of law in which we specialize.
How to issue a temporary residence permit in Bulgaria?
In order to issue a temporary permit, one of the grounds provided for by the current legislation of Bulgaria must be relevant. This can be employment, family reunification or marriage, investment, volunteering, education, commercial activity, purchase of real estate. There are a number of advantages that people who apply for a residence permit in Bulgaria enjoy. Among them, it is worth noting the following:
- the ability to apply for health insurance;
- the ability to receive social security;
- the right to find a job without obtaining any special permits;
- the opportunity to travel freely within the EU countries, as well as freely enter and leave Bulgaria at any time.
If a person is a seasonal worker in Bulgaria, then he can apply for a permit for the duration of the employment contract. As for more qualified jobs, unfortunately, they are not as easy to get as seasonal ones. The fact is that according to Bulgarian legislation, preference in employment is given to citizens of this country who have the appropriate qualifications.
If we talk about marriage with a Bulgarian citizen as a basis for obtaining a residence permit, then in the future this factor will also help to obtain Bulgarian citizenship. You will need to live legally in Bulgaria for 3 years, not 5 years, as would be assumed on general grounds.
Now let’s take a closer look at such a basis as opening your own business.
There are 2 options.
- The first of them is opening a representative office of a foreign company in Bulgaria. The legal mechanism is not very simple, because confirmation from the local Chamber of Commerce and Industry is required. Therefore, if you go this route, it would be advisable to use the services of legal support.
- The second option is opening an enterprise where you will employ 10 local residents. But if the employees are fired, this fact will become a reason for losing the right to reside in Bulgaria on the basis of a residence permit.
And finally, let’s consider such a basis as studying at a Bulgarian university. A student has the right to receive a residence permit for the entire period of his studies. However, this basis is not suitable for everyone, because studying in this country is quite expensive.
How to apply for a permanent residence permit?
The procedure for applying for a permanent residence permit in Bulgaria is regulated by Article 25 of the Law “On Foreigners in Bulgaria”.
It states that a permanent residence permit is available to the following categories of persons:
- those of Bulgarian origin;
- those who have resided annually for 5 years on the basis of a temporary residence permit and have been in this country for more than 30 months out of the aforementioned 5 years;
- those who have invested one million leva in the state economy or increased existing investments by the same amount in one of the ways provided for by Bulgarian legislation.
The last point is worth considering in more detail. This concerns the acquisition of shares in Bulgarian companies; ownership of a share of property in a local enterprise with at least 50 percent of state capital; Bulgarian intellectual property or rights under a concession agreement.
A person who receives a residence permit in Bulgaria is assigned a Unified State Number (USN). He or she is also issued a corresponding plastic card. Family members of such a person can also receive a permanent residence permit in Bulgaria. This includes the second spouse and minor children. The permanent residence permit is provided for an unlimited period. The key is that the person has a valid international passport. The extension of such a permit is free of charge.
What are the grounds for obtaining Bulgarian citizenship?
A person can become a citizen of Bulgaria under the following conditions:
- birth in the territory of this state;
- Bulgarian origin;
- naturalization;
- services to Bulgaria;
- investments.
Each of these grounds for acquiring Bulgarian citizenship is carefully regulated by local legislation. Therefore, if you are considering such a prospect for yourself, it is worth understanding all the legal norms that will be relevant to you. With our services, it will be much easier to do this.
