Since October 29, 2025, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has canceled the previously introduced temporary procedure for extending the validity period of foreign passports, which was in effect since February 2022.

The cancellation of the procedure means that it is no longer possible to apply for the extension of a foreign passport at the consulates of Ukraine, and all extended passports must be replaced as soon as possible to continue the ability to travel freely abroad and leave the territory of Ukraine.
These changes are tied to the introduction of biometric control, which was implemented from 2026 at the borders with Europe, and the subsequent implementation of the ETIAS system for traveling to Schengen countries.

No, according to current Ukrainian legislation, an expired passport is considered invalid, and the extension procedure is currently not provided by the consulates of Ukraine.
In this case, it is exclusively necessary to issue a new biometric passport.
Do all European countries recognize the extended Ukrainian passport for entry?
