Transit visa to Moldova
If you are looking for a visa lawyer who will consult or offer support in the matter of obtaining a transit visa to Moldova, our specialists are ready to help in this matter. Among the specializations of the law firm “Prikhodko & Partners” migration law is one of the most significant areas of jurisprudence. Especially when it comes to the international dimension of migration law and the types of visas that are relevant for our clients.
What types of visas are there to Moldova?
Let’s look at these types of visas in more detail:
- Type “A” visa. It is also called “airport transit visa”. This visa allows foreigners to pass through the international transit zone at the Moldovan airport. However, it does not give the right to enter the territory of the state. Therefore, obtaining such a visa may be relevant in the case of travelers who pass through the territory of Moldova on an international flight.
- Type “B” visa. This visa is also a transit visa, but it gives the right to stay in Moldova for up to 5 days, traveling to another country. This visa is convenient for those who travel by car, rail or bus to a third country, crossing the territory of Moldova. The visa is valid for the period that is also relevant for the visa of the destination country, but not more than a year.
- Type “C” visa. This is a short-term visa, which is issued for a certain period with the right to stay in Moldova for up to 90 days within six months from the date of first entry into the country.
Those foreigners who want to come to Ukraine and have the appropriate visa for this (for example, type D10), in case of transit through Moldova must obtain a type B visa. This type of visa is relevant, given that there is no direct connection between the airports of the states.
If a foreigner is on the territory of Ukraine and plans to travel through Moldova to their country of citizenship, they also need to obtain a transit visa. Since April 2025, Moldova’s migration legislation has been amended, as a result of which certain requirements have been imposed on persons who are applicants for a transit visa and have the right to enter.
What documents are required to obtain a visa?
To obtain a transit visa to Moldova, you must provide the following documents:
- a valid international passport;
- an internal passport;
- a certificate of funds in the account;
- a certificate from the place of work;
- a hotel reservation, if available.
You also need to fill out the visa application form correctly. Our specialists will help you with this.
Is it possible to extend a transit visa to Moldova?
As a rule, a transit visa cannot be extended, except in truly extraordinary situations. For example, these may be circumstances of force majeure, emergency situations or transport delays, or medical reasons.
As for other circumstances, they will not be grounds for extending a transit visa while in Moldova. Therefore, if you need, for example, to stay for the purpose of work or family reunification, you should take care of another type of visa for this.
Does everyone need a transit visa?
It should be noted that Moldova has a visa-free regime with some countries. It is for citizens of such countries that a transit visa is not required when crossing the territory of Moldova. For all others, it is required. Therefore, you should choose the optimal type of visa depending on the specifics of your trip. If you will not leave the airport transit zone, visa A will do. For other cases, visa B is required, which is issued to everyone who crosses the country by land.
