Marrying a foreigner can lead to a number of legal issues, one of which is a change of surname. In Ukraine, as in many other countries, spouses have the right to choose a common surname.

What are the options?

What do I need to do to change my last name?

Marriage: The first step is, of course, marriage registration. This can be done in any department of the State Registration of civil status acts (RACS) of Ukraine.
Choice of last name: When registering a marriage, the bride and groom must inform the RATSS employee which surname they choose.
Change of documents: After obtaining a marriage certificate, it is necessary to change the last name on the passport of a citizen of Ukraine. For this, you should contact the State Migration Service of Ukraine.
