Work permit in Slovakia
As in other countries, in Slovakia, a foreigner must obtain work permits.
DOCUMENTS THAT GIVE THE RIGHT TO WORK IN SLOVAKIA
You can get a job in Slovakia only if you have an employment permit if:
- You have a temporary residence permit for the purpose of family reunification, family within 12 months from the granting of a residence permit for the purpose of family reunification;
- you have a temporary residence permit of a citizen of a third country with the recognized status of a person with a long-term residence permit in an EU member state;
- if this establishes an international treaty concluded by the SR;
- will be employed for the purpose of seasonal work for no more than 180 days during 12 consecutive months;
- will be employed as a seaman on a ship registered in the Slovak Republic or on a ship flying the flag of the Slovak Republic;
- has a residence permit of a citizen of a third country, who has the status of a person with long-term residence in an EU member state within 12 months from the beginning of residence in the territory of the Slovak Republic;
- is in a working relationship with an employer who has a registered office or branch outside the Slovak Republic and sends him to the territory of the Slovak Republic, based on a contract concluded with a legal entity or an individual for the performance of work;
- or it establishes a treaty binding the Slovak Republic.
WORK PERMIT
A work permit is issued by the Bureau of Employment, Social Affairs and Family if there is an employment contract and other additional documents. The permit can be issued only for pre-selected work with a specific employer.
There are several types of work permits. Long-term – no more than 2 years, and short-term – up to 6 months.
The term for issuing a work permit in Slovakia is 30 days. To obtain a work permit, you must submit an application in two copies, as well as a confirmation of your education.
A work permit in Slovakia is issued for a period of up to 2 years, after which it must be extended.
You need to submit the following documents:
- application of the approved sample;
- foreign passport with a valid work visa or ID card of PNP;
- TIN;
- a letter from the employer justifying his choice for this position;
- employment contract with the employer;
- a diploma or certificate of training (if available) with an apostille;
- medical insurance.
The following information must be entered in the application:
- surname, first name and date of birth;
- addresses in the country of permanent residence and addresses for receiving correspondence;
- passport number and issuing authority;
- name, address, identification code and type of economic activity of the employer;
- type of activity, place of performance of work, period during which work is planned to be performed;
- written confirmation of the employer about the guarantee of employment of a particular foreigner. In such a written confirmation, the employer also explains the reasons for the employment of the foreigner.
It is necessary to obtain an employment permit and a residence permit in connection with the employment from the competent authorities of Slovakia.
