Situation: a Moroccan citizen who studied in Ukraine and had a temporary residence permit on a formal basis 04/13 (study), which expired in August 2025, contacted us. She did not want to leave Ukraine after completing her studies. Her boyfriend, a Ukrainian citizen and active military serviceman, proposed to her. The problem was the limited time – military leaves do not last long, so waiting several months for standard procedures was not possible.

Legal norm: According to Part 14 of Article 4 of the Law of Ukraine “On the Legal Status of Foreigners and Stateless Persons”, foreigners have the right to temporary residence in Ukraine on the basis of family reunification – that is, after marriage to a citizen of Ukraine (reason 04/14). The law also allows changing the basis for the type without mandatory travel abroad, if the documents are issued within the validity period of the previous type.

Solution: Our company’s lawyers organized the procedure for accelerated marriage registration – from filing an application to registration, only a few days passed. Then we prepared a full package of documents for registration of a residence permit on a new basis – family reunification.
