The UN Development Program in Ukraine aims to combat poverty and inequality, supporting sustainable development and stimulating the emergence of new social initiatives by non-governmental organizations.
Today, a grant competition has been announced for NGOs and foundations, the results of which provide an opportunity to receive a grant of up to $30,000 for the development of projects for the social adaptation of veterans in certain regions of our country.
Selected organizations will not only pilot their own project, but will also closely cooperate with the Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine and UNDP representatives to achieve the desired result. Let's examine the terms of this grant program in more detail.
Which organizations can receive a grant for projects of social adaptation of veterans?
The grant can be received by public or charitable organizations that meet a number of mandatory criteria, including:
- have official registration in Ukraine as a legal entity and non-profit status (confirmed by the relevant codes: 0032, 0034, 0036, 0038, 0039, 0048);
- are territorially registered and actually operate in such regions as Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhia, Mykolaiv, Sumy or Kharkiv regions;
- has at least 1 year of work experience in the topic of the competition (in the field of working with veterans and their families, restoring their mental health, providing psychosocial support);
- has experience reporting on at least 1 international (grant) assistance project;
- the NGO or foundation has the necessary specialists on staff for the successful implementation of the project (manager, accountant, etc.);
- The organization has organizational and financial support from a state body or local government body that is territorially located in the region where the project is planned to be implemented.
Requirements for the projects themselves
Projects from NGOs and CFs that are submitted for a grant must be aimed at providing social services (social adaptation) in accordance with State standard in one of the proposed areas: social rehabilitation in a recreational facility; social adaptation in the community at the place of residence.
Each of the proposed proposals must necessarily include:
- first, the development of a transparent system for selecting participants;
- secondly, identifying the individual and group needs of the audience;
- thirdly, developing a comprehensive recovery program (including by involving a qualified team of various specialists for implementation), implementing an individual adaptation plan for each participant;
- fourth, ensuring monitoring and evaluation of the quality of services for social adaptation of veterans;
- fifth, organizing psychological and social consultations;
- finally, other initiatives that may be useful during the implementation of the project (development of communication skills, organization of seminars on topical issues, conducting therapeutic activities, etc.).
Finally, according to the terms of the grant program, the maximum duration of the NGO or CF project must be 6 months from the moment the grant is approved.

What is the application procedure for a grant for veterans' social adaptation projects?
Documents that the applicant needs to prepare
To participate in the UNDP competition, applicants must prepare and submit:
- an application form that describes in detail the organizational plan for project implementation;
- financial proposal (estimate), calculated in terms of the US dollar;
- copies of registration documents of a non-profit organization (Extract from the Unified State Register, certificate from the State Tax Service on the inclusion of the organization in the Register of Non-Profit Organizations);
- documents confirming the existing work experience of the NGO, CF (copies of contracts for dog work, reports on implemented projects, letters of recommendation, etc.);
- CVs of key personnel for the implementation of the relevant social initiative (for each participant, respectively);
- letters of support from partner institutions (if available).
What can grant funds be spent on?
The grant can be used exclusively for those expenses that are necessary for the project activity, and also if the organization can document their reality and feasibility.
The permissible categories of expenses are as follows: remuneration of personnel, experts involved; purchase of goods and services, consumables necessary for the implementation of the project; rental of premises; transportation costs.
At the same time, the possibility of NGOs, CFs to spend the grant on debt repayment, international travel, purchase of vehicles is not allowed.
So, the UNDP grant in Ukraine is aimed at supporting public and charitable organizations engaged in the social adaptation of veterans in such regions as Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhia, Mykolaiv, Sumy or Kharkiv regions.
