A permanent residence permit is a more stable status for a foreigner and is issued for a longer period than a temporary one.
There are 3 types of permanent residence permits:
- Permanent residence permit for 5 years
- Permanent residence permit for an unlimited period
- Long-term residence permit.
It can be obtained by foreigners:
- Married to a citizen of Slovakia
- Dependent relatives of a Slovak citizen who permanently resides in the country
- Minor children of foreigners with permanent registration on the territory of the Slovak Republic
An application for obtaining this type of permanent residence in Slovakia can be submitted only at the migration police and at the consular department of the embassy of the Slovak Republic. It is enough to submit the application itself and have a foreign passport with you. All other documents can be submitted later. The deadline for making a decision is 90 days.
In order to obtain a permanent residence permit, several conditions must be met:
- To be a law-abiding citizen of the EU;
- If the basis for obtaining a permanent residence permit is business activity and residence for 5 years on the territory of Slovakia, then the created company must be profitable.
- A foreigner must not leave Slovakia for a period exceeding 10 months in 5 years.
- The presence of circumstances that allow you to apply for permanent residence (an important field of activity, 5 years of residence, family status.)
- Knowledge of the Slovak language.
Necessary documents
In order to issue a residence permit in Slovakia, the applicant must prepare the following documents:
- passport;
- application filled out in Slovak;
- photo 3 x 3.5 cm (2 pcs.);
- registration certificate (notarized copy);
- certificate of criminal record in the native country;
- a document on the availability of housing in Slovakia (in the case of renting an apartment, a contract can be provided);
- confirmation of the availability of financial resources (statement from a personal account);
- medical insurance.
