GET SLOVAK CITIZENSHIP

As stated in Law № 40/1993 “On Citizenship”, you can obtain Slovak citizenship in several ways:

• Acquisition of citizenship by birth,
• Acquisition of citizenship by adoption,
• Acquisition of citizenship by admission to citizenship.

What does Slovak citizenship give?

• receive free medical care in state medical institutions;
• receive benefits and social benefits provided by the state;
• priority right to occupy vacancies;
• open a business, learn to travel in the SR and EU countries and stay in these countries for ninety days within six months;
• participate in elections and nominate candidates for elected positions;
• to obtain citizenship in incoming EU countries according to a simplified scheme;
• after obtaining Slovak citizenship, retain the citizenship of the country of origin.

OBTAIN SLOVAK CITIZENSHIP BY BIRTH

Children under the age of 18 can obtain citizenship of the Slovak Republic in the following cases:

• be born on the territory of the Slovak Republic;
• be adopted by citizens of the Slovak Republic;
• live continuously in the Slovak Republic with a permanent residence permit for 3 years;
• live in the Slovak Republic under the official guardianship of a Slovak citizen for 2 years.

WARNING! Children of foreigners born in the SR will not automatically receive citizenship, but they have the right to draw up documents to visit their country of birth under a simplified scheme.

As a result of passing the naturalization procedure, which provides:

• arrival in the country on the basis of a long-term visa (the basis can be: employment, marriage, study, business registration, family reunification);
• obtaining a Temporary Residence Permit (residence permit);
• after three years of residence, passing an exam on the Slovak language and integration (provisions of the Constitution and observance of traditions), apply for obtaining (PMP);
• after five years of permanent residence, they apply for citizenship.

OBTAIN SLOVAK CITIZENSHIP BY ADOPTION

Citizenship of the Slovak Republic is acquired through adoption only if at least one of the adopters is a citizen of the Slovak Republic. By analogy with the acquisition of citizenship by birth, it does not matter in which country the adoptive parents live.

OBTAIN SLOVAK CITIZENSHIP THROUGH MARRIAGE

An official marriage with a citizen of Slovakia gives the opportunity to obtain citizenship after three years of cohabitation and household management on the territory of the country. If the marriage is found to be fictitious, the foreigner’s wife will be deported and banned from entering the EU.
