As stated in the Law “On Polish Citizenship” and the Constitution of the Republic of Poland, there are several ways to obtain a Polish passport:

  • originally,
  • through marriage with a citizen of the country,
  • under the naturalization procedure or
  • with a Polish card.

TO BE GIVEN POLISH CITIZENSHIP BY BIRTH

The granting of citizenship of the Republic of Poland by right of birth is carried out on the basis of Chapter 2 of Articles 14, 15 and 16 of the Law “On Polish Citizenship”. A minor child has the right to receive the status of a citizen:

  • Regardless of the place of birth, when the mother or father is Polish;
  • Born in Poland, when the mother and father do not have citizenship;
  • Adopted before the age of 16 by citizens of the state.
  • The procedure for obtaining Polish citizenship by persons over the age of 16 requires confirmation of the child’s personal consent.

OBTAIN POLISH CITIZENSHIP BY NATURALIZATION

It is possible to obtain the status of a citizen according to the standard naturalization procedure after three years of continuous stay with a permanent residence permit on the territory of the country. Each applicant for Polish citizenship must first obtain a residence permit, permanent residence permit, confirm the presence of a permanent source of income, pass a comprehensive test on knowledge of the Polish language, culture and history, buy or rent real estate in Poland, and also renounce the current passport. Registration of a residence permit, passing an exam, translation and preparation of documents, consideration of applications and issuance of a Polish passport are paid in accordance with the procedure established by law.

OBTAIN POLISH CITIZENSHIP BY ROOTS

On November 9, 2000, the Law “On Repatriation” entered into force, which provides for the granting of Polish citizenship by blood. Those whose ancestors up to the 4th generation are citizens of Poland or who lived before January 1, 2001 in the following countries can apply for a Polish passport under this procedure: Ukraine, Belarus, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan , Uzbekistan, the Asian part of the Russian Federation. Also, an important requirement for applicants is the presence of their own or rented real estate in Poland. Those who have confirmed ethnic kinship with the Polish people are issued a repatriation visa, on the basis of which citizenship and a state passport are issued.

OBTAIN POLISH CITIZENSHIP THROUGH MARRIAGE

In the legislation of the Republic of Poland, there is no possibility of automatic acquisition of citizenship after marriage with a citizen of the country. In order to obtain a Polish passport, a foreign spouse must live in Poland for 2 years with a permanent residence permit and document at least 3 years of being married to a citizen of the country. Applicants must also pass a test on knowledge of the Polish language and give up their first passport.

OBTAIN POLISH CITIZENSHIP WITH A POLISH CARD

The Polish government offers accelerated issuance of citizenship by origin, confirmed by a Pole card. A card is issued to foreign persons who have proved that their mother or father, grandmother or grandfather, great-grandmother and great-grandfather belong to the Polish nation on one of the lines. In accordance with the Law “On the Pole’s Card” and the amendments to Article 4 of the Law “On Polish Citizenship”, the Pole’s card allows you to obtain a PMP under simplified conditions and, after 1 year of continuous residence in the country, apply for the status of a citizen.
