Citizenship is a special individual connection between a citizen and the state. Obtaining the citizenship of a particular country is a rather complicated procedure that has many stages. As stated in the Law № 186/2013 of 11.06.2013 “On Citizenship of the Czech Republic”, citizenship can be obtained in several ways:

Obtain Czech citizenship from birth

According to Article 4-5 of the Law on Citizenship of the Czech Republic. If at least one of the child’s parents has Czech citizenship on his / her birthday, then the child automatically has Czech citizenship. Moreover, Czech citizenship of parents can be both from birth and acquired.

Obtaining Czech citizenship by establishing paternity

Acquisition of citizenship as a result of adoption

  • at least one of the foster parents must be a citizen of the Czech Republic;
