Law Firm “Prikhodko and Partners” participated in a roundtable discussion on artificial intelligence in the legal profession
The round table “Artificial Intelligence in the Work of a Lawyer: Ethics, Responsibility, Legal Prompt Engineering” was held at the Національна асоціація адвокатів України, dedicated to the application of AI in legal practice and the justice system.
The event was attended by the management of the law firm “Prikhodko and Partners,” namely the Founder, Chairman of the NAAU Committee on Digitalization of the Bar Andrii Prikhodko, and the CEO, Member of the NAAU Committee on Digitalization Anatolii Perepelchenko.
What Was the Round Table About?
During the discussion, participants focused on key issues:
- ethical boundaries of using artificial intelligence by lawyers;
- liability for documents prepared using AI;
- risks of breaching attorney–client privilege;
- the need for regulatory framework;
- prospects for implementing AI in the judicial system.
Special attention was paid to European approaches to AI regulation and the need to adapt Ukrainian legislation to modern digital challenges. The participants emphasized that AI can be an effective tool for analyzing large volumes of data and drafting documents, but it cannot replace professional legal reasoning and the lawyer’s responsibility.
Position of “Prikhodko and Partners” on AI in the Legal Profession
Andrii Prikhodko emphasized the need to develop clear methodological guidelines for the use of artificial intelligence in legal practice. According to him, the digitalization of the legal profession is inevitable; however, it must be accompanied by compliance with the Law of Ukraine “On the Bar and Legal Practice” and the Rules of Legal Ethics.
The Chairman of the NAAU Committee on Digitalization confirmed that cases have already been recorded where AI was used to create lawyers’ websites and promotional materials in violation of professional standards. Therefore, the Committee is working on preparing educational materials and clarifications for the legal community.
Anatolii Perepelchenko structured the main risks of using AI in legal practice in his speech. Among them:
- the threat of disclosure of clients’ confidential data;
- system “hallucinations” — fictitious court decisions or legal provisions;
- the inability of AI to assess ethical and reputational consequences;
- the lawyer’s full personal responsibility for the final result;
- the absence of industry standards for working with such tools.
He also drew attention to the growing number of fraudulent schemes involving deepfakes and AI-generated content, which creates new challenges for the legal market.
Conclusions and Practical Significance for Business and Lawyers
The round table clearly demonstrated that artificial intelligence is already actively used in the legal sector; however, legal regulation and professional standards are still being formed.
The key conclusion is that AI can be an effective tool for optimizing a lawyer’s work, but it:
- does not replace professional legal analysis;
- does not release a lawyer from liability;
- creates risks for confidentiality and reputation;
- requires clear internal policies and industry standards.
For businesses, this means new challenges: from the use of AI in legal documents to risks of deepfakes, data leaks, and unfair competition. For lawyers, it means the need to operate in the context of digital transformation without violating legislative requirements and the Rules of Legal Ethics.
