Travel, work, moving to other countries have become common events for us. However, is it that easy to cross the border or is it necessary to obtain a certain permit?

Having become one step closer to the European Union, Ukraine and the EU countries established a visa-free regime for their citizens. Thus, since June 11, 2017, citizens of Ukraine can freely cross the borders of EU countries without obtaining special permits.

Therefore, to travel for a period of no more than 90 days to European countries, such as Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Estonia, Romania, Portugal, Italy, Cyprus, and to other European countries, you only need a travel document (train or plane ticket), insurance and a biometric foreign passport.

If you do not have a biometric passport, then you need to get an exit visa.

If you plan to go to other countries that do not belong to the EU, or if you intend to stay there for more than 90 days, or if you intend not only to travel, but to get a job or study, then you will need to obtain a visa.

But in view of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation on the territory of Ukraine, a number of countries have simplified the rules of entry and in some cases it is possible to leave with the passport of a citizen of Ukraine.

General types of visas:

  • Airport transit visa (Visa type A)
  • A single Schengen visa (type C visa) – stay for a period of up to 90 days
  • Long-term visa (type D visa) - stay for a period of more than 90 days

Also, the possibility of obtaining a work visa, if a person plans to work in the territory of one or another state, has its own peculiarities regarding the terms, it can be granted for the term of the contract concluded with the employer, it can have an unlimited validity period. In the case of studying in another country, the government often requires the opening of a student visa, its registration is also not a simple procedure.

There are countries that cannot be entered without regular visas, strict requirements for entering such countries are established.

Such countries include:

  • USA
  • Great Britain
  • Japan
  • Philippines
  • Small
  • Morocco

In this case, it is necessary to apply to visa centers for obtaining a visa. And some establish a simplified procedure for obtaining a visa - an electronic visa, such as Kenya, Lesotho, Australia, Malawi, Mexico, New Zealand and others.

Thus, each country has its own peculiarities of entry, exit and stay, therefore, before leaving, you should consult with a lawyer about all the questions you may have.

In addition, we draw your attention to the fact that countries, in particular, but not exclusively, the European Union provide Ukrainians with the opportunity to stay in one or another state based on the status of Temporary Protection. This status provides citizens with many opportunities to exercise their rights, for example, the right to work, including entrepreneurial activity, the right to legal residence for a period determined by law, the right to social protection and support, the right to study, and others. However, there are a number of obligations, for example, restrictions on movement in certain countries.
