Schedule of illnesses for exemption from military service
Schedule of diseases for exemption from military service is a document that identifies diseases and other conditions that prevent military service. The schedule of diseases is developed by the Ministry of Health of Ukraine and approved by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.
Dismissal procedure
Dismissal from service due to health is carried out by decision of the Military Medical Commission (MMC). The MMC consists of doctors of various specialties who conduct an examination of a serviceman and determine his suitability for military service.
A military serviceman may be released from military service due to his health in the following cases:
- if he has a disease or other condition that prevents military service;
- if he received an injury or illness related to the performance of military service duties;
- if he is disabled due to illness or injury connected with the performance of service duties.
Conditions for exemption from military service due to health
In order to be exempted from service on the grounds of health, it is necessary that an illness or other condition that prevents military service meets one of the criteria specified in the Schedule of Diseases.
Dismissal criteria may be as follows:
- absolute unsuitability;
- temporary incapacity;
- limited suitability.
Absolute unfitness for service
Absolute unfitness for military service means that an illness or other condition is incompatible with military service. In this case, the serviceman is released from military service into the reserve without the right to re-enlistment.
Temporary unfitness for military service
Temporary unfitness for military service means that an illness or other condition prevents service for a certain period of time. In this case, the serviceman is released from service on medical leave until he recovers or until he recovers to a condition suitable for military service.
Limited serviceability
Limited fitness for service means that the disease or other condition is not incompatible with military service, but limits the serviceman from performing certain types of military service or requires limitations in service. In this case, the serviceman may be released from military service into the reserve with the right to re-enlistment.
