RESTORATION OF UKRAINIAN CITIZENSHIP

 This article will consider such a basis for obtaining citizenship of Ukraine as "Restoration in citizenship". In theory, this process is called reintegration.

 The Law of Ukraine "On Citizenship" provides for the grounds for acquiring citizenship through restoration of citizenship (part 4 of article 6). This procedure is regulated in detail in Article 10 of the above-mentioned Law.

 A person who previously had a passport of a citizen of Ukraine and is now a stateless person applying for restoration of citizenship is guaranteed by law reintegration regardless of his place of residence at that time.

 If a person has already received a passport of a foreign state, the situation is somewhat more complicated. Such a person will need to submit a commitment that he wants to terminate foreign citizenship, if in another country it does not automatically terminate for the acquisition of another. Also, this person should return to their homeland for permanent residence. If this person has passports of several states, then you need to submit an obligation to terminate foreign citizenship in all these countries.

 The submission of a commitment to renounce foreign citizenship must be confirmed in Ukraine. For this, a foreigner (a Ukrainian who has terminated Ukrainian citizenship) must submit an official sample issued by an authorized body of the relevant foreign state. In fulfillment of this, the person has two years from the date of registration as a citizen of Ukraine. In turn, the law determines that registration by a citizen is the making of an entry by a specially authorized body on the receipt by a person of Ukrainian citizenship in the relevant accounting documents. If a person has taken all the necessary steps to submit an obligation to terminate and, for reasons independent of it, cannot receive an appropriate affirmative document, then he submits a declaration of renunciation of foreign citizenship. It is important that you do not need to submit obligations to foreigners in whose states there is a mechanism for automatic termination simultaneously with obtaining citizenship of another state, and this, in particular, to citizens of Austria, Germany, Ireland, Spain, Latvia, Lithuania, the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Norway, Slovakia, Estonia.

 People who are on the territory of the state of Ukraine in the status of a refugee or an asylum seeker, instead of promising to terminate their citizenship, submit a declaration on the refusal of a refugee in Ukraine or an asylum seeker in Ukraine from foreign citizenship.

 Also, persons who filed a declaration of termination of another citizenship are required to return their foreign passport of that country to its authorized bodies.

Who cannot recover Ukrainian citizenship?

 This category of the Law of Ukraine "On Citizenship" includes persons who acquired the citizenship of Ukraine by fraudulent actions, by providing false documents or committed certain other actions.
