Residence by investment

A Despite the martial law, it remains quite common in Ukraine to obtain a Ukrainian residence permit on the basis of an investment in the country's economy. This is one of the fastest ways to obtain a permanent residence permit (which is issued indefinitely) without having a spouse, children, birth or other relatives in Ukraine, etc.

The main condition for obtaining residence by investment is that the investor must invest at least USD 100 thousand in the Ukrainian economy.

It is also important to note that after five years of residence in Ukraine, a foreigner or a foreign national has the right to apply for Ukrainian citizenship.

The main stages in obtaining investment residency are:

1. obtaining a tax number by a foreigner;
2. registration of a company in Ukraine;
3. opening a bank account in a Ukrainian bank;
4. making an investment of at least USD 100 thousand;
5. registration of the investment with the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine;
6. applying for an immigration permit. At this stage, a foreigner can stay both abroad and in Ukraine, but it is imperative to keep track of the period of stay, as foreigners are allowed to stay 90 calendar days in 180 days in Ukraine. However, if you want to stay longer than the allowed time, you will have the opportunity to extend your stay based on the expectation of the readiness of your immigration permit;
7. after obtaining an immigration permit, a foreigner must apply for a D-01 visa (for immigration) at Ukrainian consular offices abroad. This can be done not only in the country of the foreigner's citizenship, but also in any other country where there is an embassy of our country (no visa is required for the countries of the former CIS, except for citizens of the Russian Federation);
8. obtaining a permanent residence permit (takes approximately 15 business days) and registering a place of residence in Ukraine.

The necessary documents to be submitted to the migration service are:

• a valid foreign passport of a foreigner or a stateless person and its translation into Ukrainian with notarization
• a certificate of no criminal record from the country of citizenship, legalized and translated into Ukrainian;
• documents confirming the company's registration in Ukraine;
• certificate of receipt of funds in the bank in the form of foreign convertible currency. Such a certificate must be signed by the bank's management (or branch/office/representative office), and the date of issue and number must be indicated. The certificate is certified by the seal of the banking institution and is valid for six months from the date of its issuance.

It is also worth noting that the purchase of housing in our country is not an investment, because it is considered to be an expenditure for the person's own needs. The investment must be in the Ukrainian economy.
