RESIDENCE PERMIT: CURRENT ISSUES

Reading time: 3 min.

A temporary or permanent residence permit in Ukraine is an opportunity for foreigners to legally stay in the territory of our country. And if we have already touched on the procedure for obtaining a permit in previous materials, then let's talk in more detail about some other issues that often interest people on this topic. So, let's start.

What to do when the permit expires?

For those who do not plan to go, but want to continue to legally stay in the territory of Ukraine, it is worth taking care to extend the permit. This is done no later than 15 working days from the moment the permit expires.

Everything happens according to the following algorithm:

  • You submit a complete list of the necessary documents to the State Internal Revenue Service and have your current license with you.
  • After receiving the documents, it will be returned to you.
  • When the new permit is ready, you will need to hand in the old one when you receive it.

Thus, the mechanism of extending the permit is quite simple. Therefore, law-abiding foreigners and stateless persons usually have no problems with this. The key is to adhere to the terms and procedures established by law.

How to find out if the certificate is ready?

Nowadays, in the period of active digitalization, it is not necessary to appear several times in person or call the State Internal Revenue Service to find out whether the card is ready. It is only necessary to use the website of the State Migration Service by selecting the "Check status of documents" menu. Everything there is simple enough that you can quickly figure it out and see the information you need.

What to do if you cannot come to pick up your permit soon?

Various situations occur in life, starting with illnesses and ending with long business trips. So sometimes people do not have the opportunity to quickly get the necessary documents. It is not a problem if you are not able to come for a permit for a month or two.

The key is to pick up the document within 6 months from the date of issue. If the person does not appear within such a period, the certificate is subject to destruction.

What to do if the last name, first name or patronymic has changed?

In this case, you must first obtain a new passport or identity document (the latter is relevant for stateless persons). Further, the documents required for the exchange of a permit must be submitted to the State Internal Revenue Service no later than within a month.

How useful is the help of a lawyer in migration matters?

The task of a specialist specializing in migration law is to provide the client with quality advice and/or legal support for the required procedure. This provides benefits such as:

  • understanding that you will receive timely and reliable information;
  • assistance in interaction with state authorities, which optimizes and often speeds up the necessary procedures;
  • moral and psychological comfort due to the fact that the legal aspects of your relations with the state are supported by a competent specialist.

So, apply - and let your obtaining the necessary documents always be easy and comfortable.
