REPLACEMENT OF RESIDENCE PERMIT IN UKRAINE

Reading time: 3 min.

A residence permit is a document that opens up to foreign citizens the possibility of the most comfortable living in Ukraine for 10 years (when it comes to a permanent residence permit). Leaving aside complex legal terminology, foreigners living in our country on the basis of a residence permit enjoy almost the same rights as citizens (with the exception of participation in the electoral process). Moreover, obtaining a residence permit in the future makes it possible to become a citizen of Ukraine.

When is a residence permit required?

As a rule, one of the common reasons is the expiration of the document. In this case, in order to continue legally staying in Ukraine, you should contact the territorial division of the State Migration Service in time to extend the residence permit. This must be done no later than 15 days before the expiration date of the old document. The residence permit, which is still valid, is presented along with other documents required for submission. We will talk about them later, but for now we should touch on what other reasons may be for replacing a residence permit. Among them:

  • A situation where a foreigner has changed his first or last name. In this case, it is worth entering up-to-date data in the new residence permit so that the information indicated in the document confirms his identity.
  • Identification of discrepancies in documented information. If the document contains an error, it should be replaced so that it contains up-to-date data.
  • Significant document damage. When the document cannot be used due to its damage, you must also contact the territorial division of the State Migration Service and replace it with a new one.
  • Loss of a valid residence permit. When a document is lost, it is quite obvious that it needs to be restored. This happens quite quickly, since the migration service has all the data that you submitted when applying for a residence permit.
  • Achievement of 25 or 45 years of age by a person who has an old residence permit that does not contain electronic media.

Thus, the legislation clearly provides a list of reasons why a document confirming a residence permit needs to be replaced.

What documents should also be provided?

First of all, we are talking about the old residence permit that you will replace. This applies to all situations, except for the loss of the document. You should also provide:

  • Passport or other document that serves as an identity card.
  • His Ukrainian translation.
  • Evidence confirming the circumstances according to which the residence permit needs to be replaced.
  • Receipt showing that you have paid the immigration fee.

Specialists of PRIKHODKO&PARTNERS will be happy to advise on this topic and, if necessary, provide legal support in cooperation with the State Migration Service.
