RENEVAL OF UKRAINIAN CITIZENSHIP

Every person acquires the citizenship of one or another country from birth. During one's life, citizenship can change for one reason or another. For example, due to family circumstances, a citizen of Ukraine moved to a permanent place of residence in another country, terminated Ukrainian citizenship and acquired foreign citizenship. Who can submit documents?

An application for renewal of Ukrainian citizenship must be submitted in person. Filing an application through a representative is not provided for by law.

How long does the application take?

The application for renewal of citizenship is considered within three months from the date of submission of a complete package of documents.

Can they refuse to renew Ukrainian citizenship?

The Law of Ukraine "On the Citizenship of Ukraine" provides for a number of grounds on which the renewal of Ukrainian citizenship may be refused by the Department of Internal Affairs. In particular, this includes:

• committing a crime against humanity or genocide;
• committed a crime in another country, which is considered serious or particularly serious under the legislation of Ukraine;
• lost Ukrainian citizenship as a result of acquiring it by deception;
• did not submit all necessary documents;
• filled out the documents incorrectly.

After receiving a positive decision on the renewal of Ukrainian citizenship, a person receives a passport of a citizen of Ukraine and acquires all the rights established for citizens of Ukraine.
