Procedure for military registration

Martial law in Ukraine has been in place for almost 2.5 years now, as the Russian Federation has been constantly trying to occupy our country. What is the military registration of Ukrainian citizens?

The military registration of Ukrainian citizens should be understood as a special registration of conscripts, persons liable for military service, and reservists, which is necessary to systematically form the Armed Forces or other military units created in accordance with the current regulations of the state. Thus, thanks to the military registration of citizens, the state fully understands how many persons liable for military service can be mobilized to perform various tasks and defend itself against the aggressor.

What is the procedure for military registration?

First of all, it is worth noting that the registration of Ukrainian citizens for military service and their possible exclusion (removal) from military registration with local TCCs and JVs, the SSU or other state bodies is based on the provisions of the Law of Ukraine "On Military Duty and Military Service". The analysis of this legal act shows that in order to register Ukrainian citizens liable for military service, they must personally appear at the local TCCs and JVs at their place of residence or actual stay and submit a written application to the military commissar for registration.

The following package of documents should also be attached to the application, namely:

• Copies of identification documents (e.g., passport or ID card);
• Copy of the registration number of the taxpayer's account card;
• Military registration documents (e.g., certificate of registration with a military enlistment office or military ID card, or temporary certificate of a person liable for military service);
• Marriage or child's birth certificate (if available);
• 3x4 photos.

Please note! Upon receipt of the documents, the employees of the TCC and JV are obliged to refer the person liable for military service to undergo a military qualification examination. This is necessary to determine whether such a person is fit for military service in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

If the submitted package of documents meets the established requirements of Ukrainian legislation and the citizen is found fit for military service in the Armed Forces, he or she is officially registered for military service.

In what cases can a person be refused registration for military service?

1. If the package of documents submitted by the person is incomplete;
2. If the submitted documents contain inaccurate information about the person;
3. If the documents submitted by the person are of inadequate quality and therefore it is impossible to establish their content.

Do women have to register for military service?

Yes, if they have received medical or pharmaceutical education, as in this case they are considered to be citizens liable for military service under Ukrainian law.
