Payments for the death of a serviceman

The legislation of Ukraine provides for one-time monetary assistance in the amount of UAH 15 million, intended for the families of fallen soldiers. This assistance is provided under an important condition - only if the serviceman was killed or died as a result of injuries received during the defense of the Motherland.

Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine № 168 of February 28, 2022 regulates the criteria for receiving this assistance. Among the persons who can count on these funds are parents, one of the spouses (if he has not remarried), minor and adult children who are studying full-time until the age of 23, as well as dependents deceased (deceased).

However, the resolution also defines the category of persons who cannot count on such assistance. This includes citizens of Russia and Belarus, as well as persons living in the territories of these countries, as well as those who have been convicted of treason or collaboration.

As for the payment, the financial aid must be paid in equal parts to all persons who have declared their right to it. Initially, 1/5 of the total amount is paid, and the remaining amount is paid monthly for the next 40 months.

In the event that some of the persons entitled to this assistance have declared it after the start of the payments, the amount can be redistributed by agreement of the parties or through judicial procedure.

The procedure for receiving payments for the families of fallen soldiers consists of several stages. First, you need to contact the military unit and get the necessary documents from them:

• an extract from the order on the exclusion of a serviceman from the personnel list in connection with his death;
• a certificate on the circumstances of the death of a military person;
• an extract from the personal file containing information about the composition of the family of the deceased serviceman;
• cash certificate regarding information on the amount of additional compensation paid at the time of the death of a serviceman.

After that, an application is submitted together with the necessary documents to the TCC and the JV. After checking the documents, they are sent to the regional level, and then to the Department of Social Security of the Ministry of Defense.
