One-time cash assistance to war invalids of the 1st group
Table of Contents:
In the conditions of modern state support, persons who have suffered wounds, injuries or contusions while performing military duties are entitled to a one-time cash benefit. This is especially true for disabled war veterans of group 1, for whom such benefit can provide significant financial support and provide the necessary conditions for rehabilitation and social adaptation.
Who is eligible for a one-time benefit?
Those who have been diagnosed with a disability related to a wound, contusion or illness received during military service are entitled to receive the benefit. The main criterion is the causal connection of the injury or illness with military service, which is determined by the Military Medical Commission (MMC).
The MMC establishes one of two types of causal connection:
- Defense of the Fatherland - injuries, illnesses or contusions received during direct participation in hostilities or defense of the state.
- Military service - cases where injuries occurred while performing official duties, but not during combat operations.
Important: if the injury is related only to military service, a lump sum benefit can only be received if disability is established. In the case of partial loss of working capacity in percentage without assignment of a disability group, no payment is provided.
How is the amount of a lump sum benefit determined?
The amount of benefits depends on the degree of disability or the established disability group, as well as on the category of service the injury is related to. This is specified in the Law of Ukraine “On Social and Legal Protection of Military Personnel and Members of Their Families”.
Partial disability (in percent)
If the degree of disability is established in percent, without assigning disability, the benefit is calculated according to the formula:
Benefit amount = Degree of disability (%)× 70 × Subsistence minimum for able-bodied persons
As of January 1, 2026, the subsistence minimum for able-bodied persons is UAH 3,209.
Example: for 50% disability: 50%×70×3209=112314.5 UAH50\% \times 70 \times 3,209 = 112314.5 \text{ UAH}50%×70×3209=112314.5 UAH
This approach allows disabled people to receive a payment even in case of partial disability, which reflects the real impact of the injury on their daily life.
Disability group established
If the VLK has determined a disability group, the amount of a lump sum benefit increases significantly and depends on the causal connection:
- Disability related to the defense of the Motherland or the performance of military service duties. For group 1 disability, the payment is 400 times the subsistence minimum, i.e. 1,283,600 UAH for 2026.
- Disability related to military service. For group 1 disability, 120 times the subsistence minimum is established, which is 385,360 UAH.
Thus, the difference in the amount of the benefit is determined not only by the disability group, but also by the circumstances under which the injury was received.
Legal aspects of receiving benefits
To receive a payment, you must submit the following documents:
- Conclusion of the Military Medical Commission (MMC) on the established disability or degree of disability.
- Passport and identification code.
- Documents confirming the causal connection of the injury with military service (certificates, acts, orders).
- Application for a one-time cash benefit.
Contacting a lawyer allows you to:
- correctly prepare documents;
- check the correctness of the payment calculation;
- appeal the refusal in case of an erroneous determination of the causal connection or disability group.

Practical advice
- Check the decisions of the VLK - even small errors in the documents can lead to a delay in payment.
- Fix the causal connection of the injury - detailed medical certificates and acts can significantly simplify the process of receiving assistance.
- Consult a lawyer - a lawyer will help prepare an application and receive financial support as quickly as possible.
A one-time cash benefit for war invalids of group 1 is not just a state payment, but real financial support that helps compensate for significant losses associated with injuries, wounds and illnesses received during service. Receiving these funds does not always happen automatically: an important role is played by the correct execution of documents, accurate establishment of the causal connection of the injury or illness with the service and timely submission of an application to the relevant authorities.
Without proper legal support, the process can drag on for months or even years due to bureaucratic errors, inconsistencies in documents or incorrect determination of the disability group. A lawyer with experience in social benefits cases will help you avoid these problems: he will check all the documents, prepare the application so that it is accepted without refusal, and, if necessary, appeal the decision of the Social Insurance Commission or social security authorities.
Therefore, to receive a lump sum payment quickly, in full, and without unnecessary risks, it is worth contacting a professional lawyer at the initial stage. This will ensure that your rights will be protected and the payment will arrive in a timely manner, allowing you to provide the necessary rehabilitation and support for yourself and your family.
