Limited eligibility status

From 04.05.2024, the status of "limitedly fit for military service" was canceled in Ukraine.

What did the status of "partially fit for military service" mean before?

Obtaining such a status could be due to the presence of certain diseases or physical disabilities that did not make a person completely unfit for military service, but limited his or her capabilities.

Persons with limited fitness for military service, as a rule, were not sent to the front line, but could serve in rear units, military educational institutions, or perform other tasks that did not require significant physical exertion. So, in fact, the name has changed, but the essence remains the same.

However, the abolition of this status means that men who previously had this status are now subject to a second military medical commission (MMC) to determine their fitness for military service under the new rules.

The introduction of the new categories of fitness was primarily intended to improve the system of assessing fitness for military service. The new system provides for a clearer and more thorough assessment of health and other factors affecting fitness for service. This makes it possible to determine more accurately whether a person can serve in the army and avoid mistakes. It also increases the mobilization resource. The abolition of the "limitedly fit" status allows more people to be included in the mobilization resource. This may be relevant in the context of martial law, when the need for personnel increases.

Therefore, three new statuses were introduced:

  1. Fit for military service: this status is granted to men who have no restrictions on military service
  2. Fit for service in military support units, TCC and JV, higher education institutions, training centers, institutions, medical units, logistics, communications, operational support, security units: this status is granted to men who have certain diseases or physical disabilities that do not make them unfit for military service but limit their capabilities.
  3. Unfit for military service with exclusion from the military register: this status is granted to men who have diseases or physical disabilities that make them unfit for military service.

How do I get the status of "fit for service in military support units" or "unfit for military service"?

This can be done by directly contacting the district territorial center for recruitment and social support (TСC and JV) at the place of registration. Next, you need to undergo a military medical commission (MMC). And get a conclusion of the MEC on your fitness for military service.

It is recommended that you bring medical certificates from public clinics to the commission, which confirm your health status and where certain diagnoses, chronic or acquired diseases are recorded.

The list of diseases and physical disabilities that determine fitness for service is set out in the Order of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine № 402 of August 14, 2008.
