What is an identification code and why is it for a foreigner?

• Firstly, a foreign citizen will not be able to perform any legal actions on the territory of Ukraine without an identification code.
• Secondly, if you are a foreign citizen and arrived in Ukraine due to the establishment of your restaurant or hotel and to open of a bank account, or, for example, to improve your professional qualifications at a university, institute or special vocational school, or you simply came to work arrived in Ukraine to make a marriage, or other civil law contract that has a notarized certificate in Ukraine, you must receive the so-called "identification code".
• It is also important to obtain a code if you decide to obtain a residence permit in our state, even if you want to buy or sell real estate.

The identification code has different wordings in its name. In other words - “Taxpayer Card”, or you can still hear the officially used name “Registration number of the taxpayer account card”. Actually, this is a mandatory document and an element of the state registration of individuals in Ukraine for paying taxes and other various mandatory payments on the territory of Ukraine.

This code consists of ten digits, which are collectively referred to as individual and unique and are entered into the State Register of Individuals for, I remind you, official payments by residents and non-residents of Ukraine, depending on age.

Timing

First of all, it is important to note that the official deadlines for obtaining the code can be extended for a longer period or reduced to several days. And the reasons for this may lie in the incorrect translation of your documents, and the reason may even be hidden in your native citizenship or in the inappropriate adaptation of your documents to the legislation of Ukraine.

According to the laws of Ukraine, the period for obtaining an individual tax number is up to 14 days, including the preparation, organization and verification of documents.

What to do if a foreigner cannot pick up the identification code?

The question above is not a problem. The document can be picked up without personal presence, but through a legal representative. For example, if you are in Ukraine, then you just need to make a notarized power of attorney for our lawyers to complete this transaction.

But if you are abroad and draw up a power of attorney in that country, then this document additionally requires legalization on the territory of Ukraine and must contain the original apostille.

What documents are needed?

The most important document is usually your identity and proof of citizenship; identification number, place of official registration and residence in the country of your citizenship; official translation of your passport or other document confirming your identity into Ukrainian; also the original power of attorney to representatives representing your interests in the tax authorities (if you cannot pick it up in person).
