How to get a certificate of criminal record with a translation?

Reading time: 3 min.

A criminal record certificate is an official document issued by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, which will indicate whether a person has been held criminally liable on the territory of Ukraine.

Such a document is issued to citizens of Ukraine who have reached the age of fourteen and have a valid passport, to foreigners and stateless persons who have a permanent or temporary residence permit in Ukraine; as well as to foreigners and stateless persons who do not have such a residence permit, but, for example, once studied at a university of Ukraine, came for tourist/private/business purposes, etc.

If you are abroad, you may need a criminal record certificate during:

  1. registration of permanent residence;
  2. submitting an application for foreign citizenship;
  3. registration of marriage in foreign state bodies, etc.

On the territory of Ukraine, a certificate of criminal record may be required:

  • to obtain a weapon permit;
  • in the process of adopting a child;
  • during registration for some job positions, etc.

Foreigners and stateless persons who plan to apply for Ukrainian citizenship will also need such a document.

We suggest that you focus on the presentation of such a certificate of criminal record abroad. Often, citizens of Ukraine who are abroad try to get a certificate of criminal record through the DIIA service portal.

However, it is worth remembering that such a certificate of criminal record is issued without a wet seal and signature of an authorized person, and such a document cannot be stamped with an apostille to make the certificate legal in other countries.

Since Ukraine is a signatory of the Hague Convention, the participants of this convention undertake to accept documents bearing the apostille stamp.

WARNING! An apostille can be placed on a document only in the country where the document was issued. Since the certificate of criminal record is issued by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, the apostille is affixed exclusively on the territory of our state.

If you need to present a certificate of criminal record in those countries that have not signed the Hague Convention, then you need to go through the procedure of legalization of the document (get stamps of the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs).

A certificate of criminal record is issued only upon a person's personal application. However, the lawyers of the company "Prikhodko & Partners" offer you help in obtaining a certificate of criminal record with an apostille thanks to representation in the state body of the lawyer.

In addition, we can issue a notarized translation into any language of the world, so that in the future you do not have problems with the acceptance of your document by foreign government bodies.
