HOW TO ADOPT A CHILD DURING WAR
In such a difficult time for our country, we all need help and support to some extent: both adults and children. But this especially applies to those children who, due to various circumstances, have lost their parents and dream of warm family relationships. Many Ukrainians have the desire to adopt a child, but in the conditions of martial law, the question arises: is the adoption procedure currently in effect?
Indeed, with the beginning of a full-scale invasion, this procedure was suspended due to the fact that the state bodies were not able to function properly, which made it impossible to prepare the necessary documents, as well as the procedure itself. But currently adoption in Ukraine has been restored.
Important: adoption is possible in the territory controlled by Ukraine and in the absence of active hostilities there.
Has the adoption process changed under martial law?
No, the procedure goes as usual, from the registration of adoptive candidates to the court hearing and decision.
Where do you need to start?
First of all, you need to collect the necessary package of documents and submit an application to the service for children and family about your desire to become a candidate for adoption.
Who has the right to adopt a child?
If you have not yet decided on a child and are considering adopting from an orphanage, preference will be given to spouses and those adopting multiple children who are siblings. In other cases, preference is given to the child's relatives, persons in whose family the child is temporarily raised, as well as the husband of the mother or the wife of the child's father.
Is it possible to adopt children who suffered from war?
Only children who are recognized as orphans, deprived of parental care or if their parents have given their consent can be adopted. They must be registered by the children's services or other state bodies. A child who was left without parental care, but they and other relatives have not yet been found, can be given temporary shelter in his family until the moment when his relatives appear or the child is recognized as an orphan or deprived of parental care - in this case, it will be possible to adopt this child according to the established procedure.
A specialist in family matters will certainly be able to facilitate the adoption procedure by providing full legal support at each stage, since future adopters may have many questions: from the necessary package of documents and the process of putting them on the register of candidates to the submission and consideration of an application in court, as well as further changes to the child's birth certificate.
