During the war, the number of people applying for disability registration increased significantly. Heart disease is one of the most common reasons people need a group, but because of the red tape it's almost impossible to get one on this basis.

Is it possible to get disability due to heart disease?

Yes, it is possible to get disabled status due to heart disease. In Ukraine, disability is granted if diseases significantly limit a person's ability to work in everyday life.

To obtain it, you need to contact the doctors who will conduct a medical and social examination (MSEK). They will assess the degree of loss of work opportunities and determine the group.

This process usually includes:

1. Contacting a family doctor for a referral.
2. Passing examinations such as cardiogram, echocardiography and other diagnostic tests.
3. Collecting the necessary medical documents and passing the medical examination.
4. Decision of the MSEK commission.

Depending on the severity of the disease, the first, second or third group of disabilities can be established.

The most common heart diseases and disabilities

• Chronic heart failure (CHF)

CHF is characterized by symptoms such as shortness of breath, fatigue, edema, and decreased physical activity that occur due to insufficient blood supply to organs and tissues.

In this case, the status of a disabled person is assigned according to the following scheme:

1. CHF 1 degree (PC 1, 2, 3) - disability is not granted.
2. CHF of the 2nd degree (FC 4 or FC 1) - the 3rd group is assigned.
3. CHF 3rd degree (FC 2, 3, 4) - the 2nd group of disability is provided.

• Heart surgery

Surgical intervention on the heart is a radical method of treatment, which is carried out in the case of a critical condition of the patient, when drug therapy has not yielded results. After such actions, a disability group is usually assigned.

When determining disability, specialists take into account several factors: the body's reaction to the operation (for example, coronary artery bypass grafting), its indications, as well as the presence of concomitant diseases.

• Group with increased pressure

When determining the group of disability due to hypertension, doctors take into account: the course of the disease, the frequency of pressure rises, the presence of complications and damage to organs, as well as the need to change working conditions.

• Group 3 - with hypertension of the 2nd degree with organ damage without symptoms.
• Group 2 - with hypertension of the 2nd or 3rd degree with organ damage.
• Group 1 - with disease progression, serious organ disorders, severe heart failure.

These are not all diseases for which a group is appointed, the list is established by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine. • Request a written disability denial decision for further appeal.
• Make sure that all necessary examinations and tests have been carried out and recorded. If you believe that some data is not taken into account or the documents are incomplete, contact your doctor.

• File an appeal out of court - to the higher instance of the MSEK, if such actions did not yield results, then you need to go to court.
• Just in case, undergo an additional examination by an independent doctor in order to further use the results of the medical examination for an appeal.
