Grants for veterans and their families

Reading time: 5 min.

Ukrainian veterans and their family members face numerous challenges after returning from war.

Financial difficulties, finding a job, and adapting to a peaceful life are just some of them. The state and charitable organizations offer grant programs that are designed to help veterans and their families overcome these difficulties and start a new life.

Grants are funds provided for a specific project or research. Both organizations and individuals can receive them. They do not need to be returned, but recipients are required to report on the use of funds.

State grant program for veterans and their family members

Ukraine, with government support for veterans and their families, has introduced a grant program aimed at providing financial support to veterans who intend to start their businesses.

This grant is aimed at those who want to conquer new horizons in the entrepreneurial field and create additional jobs. Below, we'll take a look at all the details of this program and exactly how it helps veterans and their families.

First of all, it is worth finding out who can be considered a veteran and a member of his family:

  • A veteran is a person who participated in hostilities or received a disability in connection with the war.
  • The second spouse is the official companion of a combatant.
  • A veteran entrepreneur is a veteran who has the status of an individual entrepreneur for at least three years.

The size of the granted grant depends on the volume of the request and does not exceed the following limits:

For family members who undertake to create:

  • One workplace - up to 250,000 hryvnias.
  • Two jobs - the amount from 250,000 to 500,000 hryvnias.

After receiving the grant, the applicant is obliged to hire the necessary employees.

For combatants and/or persons with war-related disabilities, who are registered as individual entrepreneurs, and who undertake to create:

  • One workplace - up to 250,000 hryvnias.
  • Two jobs - the amount from 250,000 to 500,000 hryvnias.
  • Four jobs - the amount from 500,000 to 1,000,000 hryvnias.

After receiving the grant, the recipient is obliged to employ employees.

Grants of up to 500,000 hryvnias are fully financed by the state program. Grants from 500,000 to 1,000,000 hryvnias are provided under the condition of co-financing with the recipient in the following ratio: 70% of the project cost - at the expense of the state, and not less than 30% - at the expense of the recipient's funds (own or credit).

For what purposes can the grant be spent?

  • Purchase of furniture, equipment, and vehicles for commercial use.
  • Obtaining licensed software can cover up to half of the cost of the total grant amount.
  • Purchase of raw materials, materials, goods, and services necessary for the implementation of the business plan, as well as for the creation of a farm, where you can use up to 70% of the total amount of the grant.
  • Payment for marketing and advertising services, where up to 10% of the total grant amount is available.
  • Rent of non-residential premises or land plots for commercial and industrial purposes, where you can use up to 25% of the total amount of the grant.
  • Equipment rental, where up to 30% of the total grant amount is available.
