Grant funding for startups in the climate sector is provided to young companies for one of several goals: development or testing of technology, or direct implementation.
Startups that receive funding must work on decarbonization, recycling of production waste, and other relevant costs. The grant will help startups reach a new level by implementing the most relevant technologies in the field of "green economy."
We will look below at the details of the conditions for participants in the grant competition and the amount that can be received.
What startups are allowed to participate in the grant competition?
The grant is primarily aimed at ambitious entrepreneurs whose activities are focused on building an ecologically sustainable economy in the country.
Startups that meet the competition criteria must focus on two key areas:
- First, climate change mitigation. The startup must work on the causes of global warming, focusing on reducing greenhouse gas emissions (e.g., implementing ecological transport);
- Second, adaptation and resilience to climate change. New technologies should aim to increase the resilience of cities and communities to new weather conditions and phenomena (e.g., offering new systems for predicting natural disasters).
It is also worth noting that the startup must be in the early stages of development but already have a finished prototype (MVP).
Which innovative projects in the field of climate mitigation will have priority?
Preference will be given to those startups that offer technologies with potential for further scaling and are distinguished precisely by the ability to solve global issues.
Thematically, they may include the following:
- generation from renewable energy sources (installation of SES, WES, etc.);
- Greening AI (optimization of data center energy consumption);
- increasing the level of circular economy in the country (waste processing);
- establishing proper security (modeling climate risks, AgTech);
- adaptation measures for regions (special coatings for buildings, insurance against climate damage, etc.).
Which startups may be denied a grant?
In addition to the above requirements, there are other criteria under which a startup may be denied.
- First, if the innovation has already attracted more than 5,000,000 USD from investment funds.
- Second, if the startup thematically does not fall under the priority areas in 2026. Finally, if the application and all necessary documents are submitted after the deadline - April 27, 2026.
What amount of funds can a startup expect?
Grant assistance for one startup cannot exceed 50,000 USD (equivalent to 2,100,000 UAH).
In addition to financial support, a climate mitigation startup can also receive mentor support, expert consultations, and access to a network of venture investors (if needed).
What is the procedure for applying for a grant for climate mitigation startups?
The grant application is submitted by contest participants through an online submission system and goes through several stages of verification.
Initially, the applicant submits to the grant competition:
- a concept note (a brief description of the project and its uniqueness);
- an assessment of the startup's impact on the climate or its ability to withstand changes;
- a Pitch Deck, which is essentially an investment plan for the innovation;
- a full grant application after a preliminary review of the concept note (a complete description of the idea and a budget with a description of the intended use of the grant assistance);
- documents for the technology company and owners (registration documents and those confirming good business reputation and financial status);
- other documentation regarding the innovation (testing reports, technical documentation, etc.).
What do our managers of the grants and investment attraction department offer?
Given that the submission process is quite complex and requires a significant amount of the applicant's time and effort, the company "Prikhodko and Partners" offers quality assistance from managers.
Their full professional support includes the following services:
- consultation on grant conditions;
- selection of relevant grant programs and investments (if needed);
- adaptation of the project concept to the grantor's requirements;
- preparation of the concept note (in several languages, if needed);
- development of the startup's estimate (budget);
- PitchDeck creation, preparation for its presentation;
- completion and making necessary changes to the full grant application before submission;
- preparation of the applicant for communication with the grantor's representatives;
- assistance with registration of the startup and company on application portals and websites;
- post-grant management with the involvement of lawyers and accountants (regarding reporting on the use of grant funds, signing agreements with the grantor, etc.).

Can a startup from Ukraine submit a grant application if its main activity is aimed at the international market?
There is no formal requirement for mandatory business operation in Ukraine.
In this regard, startups are not limited, but it is important that they can be scaled not only in the market of one country but also in others.
The startup is still at the idea stage. Does the company have a chance of winning this grant?
Unfortunately, only those startups that already have a viable prototype and have reached TRL 4 level are allowed to participate.
For this, at least 1 test must be conducted and a report on the results obtained must be prepared.
Is it possible to apply for both directions of the grant program simultaneously?
There is no direct prohibition on submitting one proposal for two directions.
However, we recommend choosing one specialized nomination that best reflects the goal of the main innovative product, as successfully adapting its description to both directions will be quite difficult and will have a higher probability of rejection. Only if you do not have two startups.
Is it possible to renew the term for submitting a grant application if it is missed?
Unfortunately, applications submitted after the deadline will receive an automatic rejection.
The chance to submit a startup to the grant competition after the deadline of April 27, 2026 will be when it is renewed after some time (particularly when additional funding is received).
