Extension of stay in Ukraine for foreigners

An important issue, usually of interest to foreigners during their stay in Ukraine, is the extension of the terms of their stay for various reasons.

The grounds for the extension of the period of stay specified in the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.

Depending on the grounds of stay in Ukraine, the extension of terms is divided according to the criteria of a visa on which foreigners arrived, namely:

• On a short-term visa (type "C"), as well as for persons from the states with a visa-free regime (most of the CIS countries), the period of stay in Ukraine can be extended for a maximum of 180 days from the date of the last entry to Ukraine. The grounds for such extension of treatment, pregnancy or childbirth, care for a sick family member, registration of inheritance, filing an application for registration of permission for immigration or the acquisition of citizenship of Ukraine, as well as stay in Ukraine as a correspondent for foreign media. To continue, you must submit a documentary evidence of each of these grounds.
• Transit visa (type "B") in case of a forced stop in Ukraine due to extraordinary circumstances (natural disaster, illness, repair of the vehicle) in the presence of supporting documents. Period continued - the term is necessary to eliminate the circumstances.
• Long-term visa (type “D”) if during the validity period of this visa, the person is not respected and has not received a permanent or temporary residence. For a period not exceeding one month.

The decision to extend the period of stay is taken by the head of the territorial body of the State Migration Service of Ukraine or his deputy.

The deadline for submitting an application and supporting documents on this issue is no earlier than ten and no later than 3 days before the end of the period of stay in Ukraine.

The main documents that must be attached to the application for the extension of stay are the following:

• The applicant's passport document with all marks and visas;
• Translation of the passport into Ukrainian, notarized;
• Passport of the receiving party with personal data;
• A copy of the residence permit in Ukraine (if available);
• Notarial statement from the receiving party;
• A document on the ownership of housing in which the foreigner will live;
• Four photos 3,5x4,5;
• Receipt of payment of state duty.
