The issue of licensing the activities of psychologists in Ukraine is currently ambiguous.

• According to the Law of Ukraine "On Psychological Services" dated May 22, 2003, psychological assistance can be provided by individuals who have the appropriate education and qualifications.
• However, the Order of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine No. 787 dated August 27, 2007 "On approval of the list of professions of medical workers" defines a psychologist as a medical worker.

This means that in order to provide psychological care related to mental and behavioral disorders, a psychologist must obtain a license to practice medicine. But, if a psychologist does not work with mental disorders, does not treat people and does not prescribe medication, he does not need a license.

The main differences between a psychologist and a psychiatrist and a psychotherapist

• A psychologist does not have a medical education and cannot make diagnoses or prescribe medical treatment.
• A psychiatrist is a doctor who has a medical education and can diagnose mental disorders, prescribe drug treatment and conduct psychotherapy.
• A psychotherapist can have both medical and psychological education. He uses various psychotherapy methods to treat mental disorders and behavioral disorders.
