Disability group 3 – list of vision diseases
Table of Contents:
Diseases of the organs of vision significantly limit a person's ability to perform daily activities and realize their goals. In cases where vision loss is persistent, incurable and leads to loss of ability to work, the third group of disability is established.
When is group 3 assigned?
- Moderate persistent health impairments that do not disappear after treatment / rehabilitation.
- Limitation of one / several body functions that affects professional activity, but does not completely make it impossible.
- A person can work, requiring:
- reduction in workload,
- creation of special conditions (for example, light work),
- retraining / transition to another activity.
The categories of diseases and pathologies of vision that may serve as a basis for assigning the third group of disability include several persistent or irreversible conditions that significantly limit a person's professional activity / daily life, but at the same time allow for partial ability to work.
List of vision diseases for obtaining group 3
One of these grounds is the loss of one eye. If the vision in the other eye remains satisfactory, a person can partially compensate for the loss, but in the conditions of professions that require binocular vision or precise spatial orientation, such a loss significantly affects the performance of work duties. In such cases, group 3 is provided.
Another criterion is complete blindness in one eye, which is defined as visual acuity of 0.05 and below with correction or concentric narrowing of the visual field to 10 degrees. In the case of damage to both eyes, the value for establishing disability will be a decrease in visual acuity to 0.1 / narrowing of the field to 25 degrees. Such changes usually significantly affect the ability to navigate in space, read, work with small details, etc., which determines the need for social protection.
Also included among the diseases is persistent complete ptosis of one eye, which is not amenable to treatment. This condition leads to mechanical occlusion of the visual axis, worsening the quality of vision even in the absence of changes in the retina or cornea.
Important! All these disorders are considered in conjunction with other factors: age, professional activity, ability to self-care and rehabilitation results.
How to apply for a 3rd group of vision?
- Referral to a doctor and preparation of documents
First of all, you need to contact your attending physician (for example, an ophthalmologist or family doctor), who keeps your medical history. He:
- assesses your condition,
- issues a referral for an assessment by an expert team,
- attaches the results of examinations, consultations with narrow specialists and other medical documents.
- Notification of the date and format of the examination
After registering the documents, you will be notified of:
- date,
- place,
- format of the assessment - this can be an in-person / remote examination (depending on the circumstances and technical capabilities).
An on-site assessment is also possible if the patient's health condition does not allow you to get to the commission.
- Passing the examination and making a decision
At the meeting, the commission considers all submitted documents, conducts (if necessary) an additional examination and makes a decision. When establishing group 3 of disability:
- the degree of limitation of vital activity is determined,
- the duration of the group is indicated,
- a conclusion on disability is drawn up.
- In case of refusal - the possibility of appeal
If the expert team refused to establish disability, you have the right to file an appeal:
- to the Central ECOPFO (higher instance),
- or go to court to legally challenge the decision.
