Citizenship of Romania for Ukrainians
Romanian citizenship for Ukrainians can be obtained in several ways:
- Based on birth. If one or both of the child's parents are Romanian citizens, the child automatically acquires Romanian citizenship at birth.
- On the basis of adoption. A child who was adopted by a Romanian citizen receives Romanian citizenship.
- On the basis of naturalization. A naturalized citizen of Romania can become a person who has lived in Romania for at least 5 years, has a legal income and knowledge of the Romanian language at a level sufficient for communication.
- On the basis of repatriation. A person who has ancestors who lived on the territory of Romania can obtain Romanian citizenship on the basis of repatriation.
To obtain Romanian citizenship based on naturalization, a person must meet the following requirements:
- be of legal age (not younger than 18);
- have a legal income sufficient to support oneself and one's family;
- know the Romanian language at a level sufficient for communication;
- no criminal record;
- ensure the availability of housing in Romania.
To submit an application for naturalization, a person must contact the Romanian Migration Service. The following documents must be attached to the application:
- completed application for naturalization;
- certificate of criminal record;
- a certificate of legal income;
- a certificate of knowledge of the Romanian language;
- certificate of housing in Romania;
- a certificate on the absence of debts to the state budget of Romania.
Consideration of the application for naturalization can last up to 1 year. In case of a positive decision, the person receives a Romanian citizenship certificate.
