In connection with the full-scale military aggression of the Russian Federation, the issue of adopting children has become extremely urgent.

This is explained by the fact that during the active hostilities in Ukraine, the number of minors and minors who lost their parents is quite high, and therefore they need to establish guardianship and care for themselves.

However, in order to adopt a child, you need to have the appropriate list of documents, which is determined by the current Ukrainian legislation. Therefore, in this article we will talk about this legal aspect.

What list of documents is required for adopting a child under Ukrainian law?

In order to adopt a child in Ukraine, citizens must first register as potential adopters. To do this, they submit an appropriate application to the local children's service.

The following list of documents is attached to the application, namely:

  • identity documents (as a rule, passports of citizens of Ukraine or an ID card);
  • marriage certificate (must be submitted if the applicants are in an officially registered marriage);
  • an opinion from a medical institution confirming that the applicants have a satisfactory state of health and can adopt a child;
  • income certificate of the applicants;
  • written consent from the other spouse that he is not refuses to adopt a child;
  • a certificate confirming the fact that the applicants have not been criminally prosecuted;
  • a certificate of ownership of a residential premises or building;
  • a certificate of completion of relevant courses that explain issues related to the proper upbringing of children, that were deprived of parental care and became orphans (if the adoptive parents are close relatives of the child, it is not necessary to provide such a certificate).

This list of documents is not final, as it may be expanded depending on individual circumstances in practice about the adoption of a minor or minor child.

Except of this, it is worth noting that during martial law, adoption of children can take place only in those parts of Ukraine where there are no military operations, the territory is not occupied and state bodies of all branches of government are constantly working.

Pay attention! If the children became orphans because they were deprived of parental care due to the armed aggression of the Russian Federation and they are not on the appropriate registration for adoption, then they cannot be adopted according to the current legislation of Ukraine.
