The procedure for establishing citizenship of Ukraine is provided for those citizens who are already recognized as such in accordance with Article 3 of the Law of Ukraine «On Citizenship of Ukraine». It is aimed at those persons who still do not have a citizen’s passport for some reason. If you are interested in a more detailed mechanism for obtaining a certificate of Ukrainian citizenship, the lawyers of Prikhodko & Partners Law Firm are ready to tell you about it as part of the consultation process.

We will also provide legal support services for obtaining such a certificate, as this service is one of our specializations, and the field of migration law is a key focus of our practice.

Who are the citizens of Ukraine?

In accordance with the current legislation, the citizens of Ukraine are:

  1. all citizens of the former USSR who, as of August 24, 1991, were permanently residing in the territory of our state;
  2. those persons who, as of November 13, 1991, resided in Ukraine and were not citizens of other states;
  3. persons who arrived in our country for permanent residence after November 13, 1991, and whose Soviet passports contained an inscription stating that they were citizens of Ukraine (this also applies to minor children who arrived with them, if their parents have applied for their children to become citizens of Ukraine);
  4. those persons who acquired Ukrainian citizenship in accordance with its laws and international treaties to which Ukraine is a party.

Let’s take a closer look at which categories of citizens are eligible for Ukrainian citizenship. We are talking about those citizens of the former USSR who have not received a passport of a citizen of Ukraine (including a passport for traveling abroad) and do not have a mark in their Soviet passport regarding their residence as of August 24, 1991 or November 13, 1991. This also includes:

  • persons who served in the military and then remained in Ukraine;
  • persons who served their sentence in prison and legally resided in the territory of the then Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic before the court sentence came into force.

Also, persons who were under the age of majority as of August 24, 1991 or November 13, 1991, but whose parents belong to the categories mentioned above, are recognized as citizens of Ukraine. In addition, it is worth mentioning persons who, as of August 24, 1991 or November 13, 1991, were not of legal age, but were brought up in state institutions of Ukraine intended for children.

And finally, it should be noted that persons who arrived here for permanent residence after November 13, 1991, and who had the inscription “citizen of Ukraine” in their passports at that time are recognized as citizens of Ukraine. This also applies to their minor children, if the parents have submitted a corresponding application.

How do we help our clients?

As already mentioned, the field of migration law is the focus of the practice of our law firm’s specialists. Therefore, we know how to help our clients effectively. When you turn to us for legal support, you no longer need to search for numerous legal provisions in laws and regulations that relate to the legal regulation of your situation on your own. A specialist in migration law helps you to understand the issue at hand faster and guides you in what the algorithm of actions should be in a given situation.

If problems arise at any stage, the lawyers can offer other services, such as for example, sending a lawyer’s request  to an authorized state institution to find out how your case is being considered, as well as verify your citizenship of Ukraine . Given that the current legislation provides for a fairly short timeframe for responding to a lawyer’s request, this makes it possible to speed up legal processes.

Thus, the services we provide in the field of migration law include the following:

  • Counseling. The knowledge gained during consultations helps you to act competently and effectively in the legal field to resolve your issues.
  • Legal support. This service makes life even easier, because all the necessary work is taken care of by a lawyer in each of the processes, which does not require your personal presence. That is why a significant number of clients choose such a format of interaction as turnkey legal support.
  • Representation of interests in court. If our client faces artificial complications or violations of their rights, we are ready to offer representation in court, as it is a very effective tool for influencing the situation.

When you turn to the lawyers of Prikhodko & Partners Law Firm for help, we know how to assist you in resolving your legal issues as efficiently as possible. Our team is used to working for results. Fill out the form on the website and our lawyer will contact you as soon as possible.
