PASSPORT FOR FOREIGNERS

Today, a passport is a document confirming citizenship and determines the person's affiliation to the state. In Ukraine, such documents are the internal passport of a citizen of Ukraine - in the form of an ID card or book of the 1994 sample, as well as a passport. But what to do if these important documents or one of them was stolen?

First of all, a person must immediately apply for a document theft to the police, and then get an extract from the Unified Register of Pre-trial Investigations from the police. In the future, to draw up a new document, a person needs to contact the unit of the Migration Service or TsNAP.

You should also not panic in the case when the passport was stolen outside of Ukraine. The procedure for applying to authorized bodies as a result of the theft of a passport is the same in most countries.

First of all, as in Ukraine, you must immediately contact the nearest police station to draw up a theft statement. Based on the results of receiving such a statement, you should be issued a certificate of theft of your passport. With this certificate, you must contact the nearest diplomatic or consular office of Ukraine to apply for a new passport (relevant for Ukrainian citizens who permanently reside or temporarily reside in the territory of the respective country) or to obtain an identity card for returning to Ukraine.

Thus, while in another country, you should not lose your vigilance and keep track of your documents and personal belongings, so that after the trip you will only have pleasant memories and impressions of an interesting and richly spent time

Sometimes the circumstances are such that after submitting an application for theft, the passport is nevertheless returned to the person, for the sake of saving their own time and money, they re-apply to the police department with an application to stop the search for the document and continue to use it.

Note that each person should think carefully before continuing to use the returned document. After all, it is quite possible that the personal data indicated in it could already be used by scammers for the purpose of profit.

Therefore, for security reasons and to avoid possible abuse associated with the use of a previously stolen passport, the Migration Service advises citizens to draw up a new document. Such actions will help the person to avoid many unpleasant situations in which it may be through the fault of fraudsters. For their own benefit, such persons can receive loans and borrowings, withdraw equipment and tools, scroll through transactions in a tenant-to-lessor relationship, and so on, using other people's documents, copies of them or even using personal data indicated on a passport.

We also remind you that it is possible to quickly and free of charge verify invalid, stolen or lost documents in the databases of the Migration Service and the Ministry of Internal Affairs using the online service “Check for invalid documents”, which works on the official website of the VHI. The service is updated daily and today contains information on invalid documents filling out both Ukrainian citizens and foreigners, in particular, a passport of a citizen of Ukraine in the form of an ID card and passport book, a passport of a citizen of Ukraine for traveling abroad, a residence permit and a residence permit, a certificate refugee identity card that needs additional protection and the like.

Also, the service can be useful to citizens who are going on a foreign trip - with it you can check in advance that your passport information is not contained for traveling abroad in the database of invalid, stolen or lost documents in order to avoid unpleasant surprises when crossing the state border.
